School History
History of Ashford Elementary School

Ashford Elementary School opened its doors in 1971, nestled in the Shadowbriar community of West Houston. Originally designed as a primary campus, it served students from pre-kindergarten through second grade. In the 2014–2015 school year, the school began expanding its grade levels, adding one each year until it became a full elementary campus serving pre-K through fifth grade.
The school’s original architecture reflected a popular 1970s trend—open-space classrooms with no physical walls separating learning areas. Over time, this design evolved to better support student learning, and today, all classrooms are self-contained. With the addition of two new wings, Ashford now boasts modern, permanent facilities tailored to meet the needs of young learners.
